Mosaics

We spent so much time looking up at ornate ceilings on our tour that it was a relief to look down at the beautiful mosaic floors in Vatican City or on display in Rome. The National Museum of Rome houses an extensive collection of ancient Roman mosaics at the Palazzo Massimo all Terme, some excavated nearby during the construction of Termini Station. At the Vatican Museums, we were astounded to realize that we were walking on ancient mosaic floors removed from Roman structures.
